Ali Bin Ali & Partners wins popular basketball league

Standing true to Ali Bin Ali (ABA) Holding’s reputation as an all-rounder, Ali Bin Ali & Partners (ABAP) – CAG and Baladna division emerged victorious in the popular Japa Sports League Inter-Company Basketball Tournament 2018.

Held at Aspire Dome, the tournament took place from August to November 2018. There was participation from 32 companies from all over Qatar, including Al Asmakh, Aerotech, Nestle, Arab Center for Engineering Studies (ACES), Carrefour Qatar, Daewoo, Hamad Medical Corporation, Al Mannai Group and Nakheel Landscapes.

The 16-member team of Ali Bin Ali Holding, led by Coach Ronnie Padios, trained and practiced hard to elevate the level of their game. They challenged all odds to balance work pressure with the tournament.

This dedication and hard work guided them to the final of the tournament against Nakheel Landscapes on November 2, 2018. After a spectacular performance, the ABA Holding team emerged victorious by 15 points.

Freddie Gilboy from ABAP was named the man of the match.

Delighted with the victory, Market Manager – Baladna Division Mr. Joseph Samaha said: “I had full confidence in the boys and knew they would bring the trophy home. The team put in a lot of hard work and sacrificed a lot, they totally deserve this win. The entire ABAP division are super proud of our boys and we are glad that we could contribute to Ali Bin Ali Holding’s sporting tradition.”

Technogym CEO & Founder visits TechnoGym Qatar

Ali Bin Ali Group’s Sports and Lifestyle division – TechnoGym – had a reason to celebrate when the CEO and Founder of the TechnoGym brand, Mr. Nerio Alessandri, paid a special visit to Qatar on May 9 and 10, 2018.

 

The TechnoGym Qatar team was overwhelmed as they welcomed the creator of ‘Wellness’.  

 

Mr. Alessandri came to Qatar with the aim to promote and spread the wellness culture that TechnoGym advocates. He also shared ideas for implementing innovative projects in the future.

 

General Manager of TechnoGym Qatar, Mr. Christophe Altabas, guided Mr. Alessandri as he visited the TechnoGym office as well as the TechnoGym boutique in Doha Festival City, which is in its final stage of fit out.

ABA Beverages supports 2018 Katara Beach Volleyball Cup

Reiterating its support for sports, Ali Bin Ali (ABA) Holding’s Beverages division came forward to support the 2018 Katara Beach Volleyball Cup.

The tournament, which saw the participation of 56 teams from 28 countries, was held from March 6 to March 10, 2018. The total prize money for the event was $150,000.

Fans came in large numbers to watch the event that was held in the beautiful setting of Katara – the Cultural Village. The center-court of the tournament was set up at the majestic setting of the Amphitheatre.

As the beverage partner, ABA Beverages ensured the continuous supply of water and juices to the athletes and visitors at the tournament venue.

This is the second tournament in the FIVB World Tour and it is the first time a four-star tournament is being held in the Middle East.

Fourteen of the top 16 seeded teams participated in the event, and Qatar was represented by three teams in the main draw. 

FORWARD team runs in the exclusive relay race on 11th ABA Olympic Day

 

It was a great show of team spirit when the ABA FORWARD Team participated in the special relay race organized for them at the 11th ABA Olympic Day, one of the biggest annual attractions for ABA Group staff members.

 

The 11th Olympic Day hosted by Ali Bin Ali Group to mark Qatar’s National Sport Day took place at Doha’s Al Arabi Sports Club on February 13, amid much fanfare and with the participation of almost 4,000 employees and their families.

 

The relay race organized for the FORWARD team was exclusively meant for those involved in the project. Team members from HR, Admin, IT, PMO, QQP, Finance and Shared Services gathered for an exciting show on the track. The 400-meter race required each member of the team to run 100 meters and pass on the baton to the next member.

 

While all the four teams gave their best shot, Team QQP, including Junaiz Odakkal, Frank George, Sirikanda Raja Periyasamy and Manura Prasanga, emerged the winners. Each member of the victorious team won attractive gift vouchers from Monoprix.

Team ABAP wins 15th ABA Cricket Tournament

Continuing with its tradition, Ali Bin Ali Group recently organized the 15th edition of the ABA Cricket Tournament. The event, through which ABA Group upheld its continued commitment to sports, was won by Ali Bin Ali & Partners – CAG Team, while the IA/PCP-1 Team finished runners-up in the tournament.

 

This year, the ABA Cricket Tournament was held at the Old Ideal Indian School Ground on January 4 and 5. More than 200 enthusiastic ABA employees and their families supported and enjoyed the exciting display of skills on the pitch.

 

Mr. Sampath Balaji, GM Finance – FMCG; Mr. Mohammad Imran, GM Dohatna/Prime Distribution; and Mr. Viji Kurien, GM – IA, were present at the game to encourage the participants.

 

Twelve teams from across ABA Group, viz, Dohatna/Prime Distribution (2 teams), IA/PCP (2 teams), ABAP-FMCG, ABA-HO, ABAP-CAG, ABATS, ABA Beverage (Pepsi), Al Danah, Monoprix, and ABA Logistics participated in the tournament. 

 

After a thrilling semi-final against the Logistics team, which went to the ‘Super Over’, the ABAP – CAG Team emerged victorious. The Man of the Series award was bagged by Mr. Anil John for his great batting skills, while the Man of the Match honor went to Mr. Suhas Sainudheen Vakattayil for his unbeaten 63 runs in the final against IA/PCP-1, both representing the ABAP-CAG team.

 

Speaking about the event, Mr. Imran said: “It is always a pleasure to see such a display of sporting skills. We are all lucky to be part of an organization that encourages sporting activities. The excitement generated by the cricket tournament was felt by the fans and spectators who attended the event. The teams ensured that the fun atmosphere was matched by some quality cricket on the field.”

Team Pepsi wins 14th ABA Cricket Tournament

An exciting show of skills was on display on the pitch as Ali Bin Ali Group held the 14th ABA Cricket Tournament in Qatar recently. The event, through which ABA Group upheld its continued commitment to sports, was won by the ABA Beverages team – Pepsi.

Besides being one of the biggest conglomerate is Qatar, ABA Group provides every possible chance to its employees to grow and realize their potential.

This year, the ABA Cricket Tournament was held at the Careem Cricket Ground from April 13 to 15. A total of 16 teams participated in the keenly contested tournament and the matches were played with great enthusiasm and team spirit.

The ABA Beverages team – Pepsi – emerged victorious by defeating the defending champions, the combined team of International Agencies (IA) and Prime Consumer Products (PCP).

Mr. Mohammed Imran, General Manager for Dohatna, was the chief guest at the tournamnet. Speaking about the event, Mr. Imran said: “It is always a pleasure to watch such exciting tournaments. We are impressed with the kind of response this event generates and happy that our company encourages such sporting activities.”

The excitement generated by the cricket tournament was felt by the fans and spectators who attended the event. The teams ensured that the fun atmosphere was matched by some quality cricket on the field, much to the delight of the game’s followers in Qatar. 

Ali Bin Ali Group celebrates National Sport Day

The 10th annual Olympic Day hosted by Ali Bin Ali (ABA) Group to mark Qatar’s National Sport Day was attended by more than 3000 employees and their families despite the weather playing spoilsport. The event took place at Al Arabi Sports Club, Doha, on February 14.

The ABA Olympic Day featured a wide range of activities and provided a great opportunity to the employees, who come from various cultural backgrounds and nationalities, to get together and mingle in a relaxed setting.

It also allowed them to learn about the importance of staying healthy through the year and engage in physical activities. There was some kind of activity for all age groups and the staff’s children, in particular, were seen having a great time.

The day’s proceedings began with senior officials of the Group releasing colourful balloons into the air and declaring the event open. This was followed by various sporting activities and games for the employees and their families.

Mr. Nabeel Ali Bin Ali, Vice-Chairman and EVP of Ali Bin Ali Group, attended the event and participated in the games. He confirmed his support to the nation’s initiative in promoting a healthy lifestyle among its citizens and residents and said, “We at Ali Bin Ali believe that a healthy body is a home to a healthy mind which increases an individual’s productivity. Sports and exercise should be a part of our daily routine.”

“As our Emiri Decree states, a healthy lifestyle should be encouraged. We have been celebrating the well-being of our employees and their families for the past 10 years by dedicating a whole day to sports and entertainment,” he added.

The head of the Organising Committee, Mr. Mohammad Imran, said they were happy about the turnout and level of participation and hoped that, true to ABA Group’s slogan ‘Together we work, together we play’, the employees had an exciting and fun day.

Recognising ABA Group’s commitment to fitness and sports, Al Arabi Sports Club presented a token of appreciation to the Group. Mr. Nabeel Ali Bin Ali received the prize from the club’s Vice-President, Mr. Jassim Al Kuwari.

The eventful day ended with the distribution of medals, prizes and a raffle draw.

The Qatar Classic, which kicked off on November 13, was attended by squash fans from all over Qatar and the ambience at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex was electrifying.

The all-Egyptian final on November 18, between 25-year-olds Karim Abdel Gawad and Mohamed ElShorbagy, got off to an exciting start – as anticipated – and the two players were involved in thrilling rallies and intelligent shot-making to regale the capacity Friday crowd. Reigning world squash champion Karim Abdel Gawad beat two-time defending champion and world number one Mohamed ElShorbagy in a nail-biting match.

“Being the world champion and Qatar champion sounds really good. I’m living a dream now,” said the delighted Gawad.

The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) held its annual Congress at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel, Qatar between February 7 and 11, 2016. Ali Bin Ali Group was one of the main sponsors of the AIPS Congress and proud to have supported Qatar’s ongoing development in the sports sector.

The Congress aptly coincided with Qatar’s National Sports Day, enabling the international delegates to participate in the sports day activities. After successfully hosting the AIPS Congress back in 2006, Qatar, the fast-rising sports capital, was once again chosen to host this internationally-acclaimed Sports Congress.
